After a mildly embarrassing running shoe fitting (I could name myself "Runs without Suitable Support" An image best left to the imagination) and a new pair of running shoes, I've old lady shuffled geriatic-ally jogged run my first mile since last March. I should mention the hormones of pregnancy loosened up some joints and ligaments so my body creaks and squeaks like a ersatz musical instrument. I should also mention that the Husband and the Baby beat me home, but they took a shorter route, and the Husband has a competitive streak so I'm fully aware he was most likely power walking to preserve his dignity.
Fortunately I'm not overly sore, 'cause I need to get back up to 3ish miles before the Revlon Run/Walk for Cancer in May. I'll be running in honor of my late Father-In-Law, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in October 2004. I'm also going to donate my tresses to Locks of Love again. It's not much, but it's my way of "giving back" and does provide a sense of comfort over a situation which leaves us all powerless, in the gritty, greedy face of cancer. I started knitting and blogging to find solace during Bill's declining health and it's only fitting that I continue to do what I can. He would be so proud of his first grandchild, Maya. I know he'd be pleased as punch with her lusty howls and strong and stubborn disposition.
We miss you Bill.
